Monster Insanity Add-On
Something is watching you. The Monster Insanity Add-On introduces a terrifying stalker into your survival world — one that evolves alongside your courage. Face it down across six escalating insanity levels, survive five unique night encounters, and ultimately merge with The Monster to gain its power.
Getting Started
How It Works
Monster Insanity layers a six-stage horror story on top of your normal survival world. You begin by brewing an Insanity Potion — from that point on, The Monster starts stalking you during the day and confronting you at night. Each time you survive the night's challenge, you earn a Shadow Essence that lets you brew the next Insanity Potion and push your insanity higher.
At Insanity Level 6 the monster becomes your companion instead of your enemy, and you can morph into it at will.
The Night
During the night you will be teleported to an isolated platform surrounded by thick fog. This is where you face the encounter for your current insanity level. At higher insanity levels, the monster may repeat earlier challenges on the same night before presenting the new one — survive them all to see the dawn.
Survive every encounter in a night → wait for day → receive your Shadow Essence reward.
Quick-start Steps
- Play Minecraft survival as normal and gather Obsidian.
- Use a Crafting Table to craft Obsidian Shards (1 block → 2 shards).
- At a Brewing Stand, brew an Insanity Potion I using an Obsidian Shard + any base potion.
- Drink the potion. The Monster will now begin stalking you during the day.
- At night, wait to be teleported to the isolate and complete the encounter.
- Survive until dawn to receive your Shadow Essence reward.
- Use the Shadow Essence to brew the next Insanity Potion, repeat.
- At Insanity Level 6, witness the transformation — and merge with The Monster.
Insanity Levels
Your insanity rises from 1 to 6. Each level makes The Monster bigger, bolder, and closer during its daytime stalking — and unlocks a new night encounter.
Level 1
A distant silhouette appears on the horizon during the day, watching you.
Level 2
The monster grows and closes the distance, still stalking from afar.
Level 3
Larger and bolder — the monster is visibly closer during its daytime stalking.
Level 4
The monster's form is unmistakable now, looming and unpredictable during the day.
Level 5
At its most terrifying — the monster is massive, aggressive, and relentless.
Level 6
The monster becomes friendly. A cutscene plays and your companion is born.
Night Encounters
Every night in the isolate you must complete one or more encounters. Each new insanity level introduces a new encounter type, and the monster may replay earlier ones on the same night. All five must be mastered to reach Level 6.
Unlocked at Insanity 1
Behind You
The monster lurks directly behind you. Don't look back — resist the urge to turn around for the entire encounter.
Unlocked at Insanity 2
Campfire
A campfire is lit in the isolate. Embrace the darkness by extinguishing it.
Unlocked at Insanity 3
Staredown
The monster stands before you. Hold eye contact — staring it down pushes it away.
Unlocked at Insanity 4
Eyes
Dozens of decoy eyes appear in the darkness. Find the monster's real eyes and approach them.
Unlocked at Insanity 5
Transform
The monster appears in human form, then transforms and unleashes its minions. Defeat every minion to win.
The Friendly Monster
When you consume the final Insanity Potion at Level 6, a cutscene plays and The Monster transforms from predator into companion. It spawns near you and is permanently tamed to you — no one else can interact with it.
Morphing
Interact with The Monster while it is standing to merge with it. You become invisible and take direct control of the creature. While morphed you retain full movement and can unleash powerful attacks.
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Interact (right-click) | Merge with The Monster — you become invisible and take control |
| Attack | Make The Monster perform a melee attack |
| Hold Jump | Charge and unleash a powerful jump |
| Move | Direct The Monster's movement |
| Sneak or Interact | Un-merge (dismount) — items you picked up re-appear around you |
| Sneak + Interact (not merged) | Make The Monster sit and open the customisation menu |
Monster Menu
While The Monster is standing, hold Sneak and press Interact to make it sit and open the interaction menu. From here you can:
- Customize — change The Monster's skin using the "Customize" sub-menu.
- Reset to hostile — sets your insanity back to 0 so you can experience the encounters again from scratch. The Monster will become hostile until you re-progress through all six levels.
Close the menu by clicking Sit or the X in the top-right corner. To stand The Monster back up, hold Sneak and press Interact again.
Items & Brewing
All progression items are brewed in a standard Brewing Stand. Any base potion (Awkward, Mundane, Thick, or Water Bottle) works as the input bottle for every recipe.
Obsidian Shard
The starting material for the entire add-on. Place one Obsidian block in any slot of a Crafting Table to receive 2 Obsidian Shards. Use one to brew your first Insanity Potion.
Insanity Potion I
Drink this to begin your insanity journey. The Monster will start stalking you during daylight hours immediately after.
Insanity Potions II – V
After surviving each night's encounters, you are rewarded with a Shadow Essence at dawn. Each essence is unique to its level — use it with any base potion to brew the next Insanity Potion.
Insanity Potion Final
The last potion. Drinking it triggers a cutscene in which The Monster becomes your companion. You will never need to face it as an enemy again.
Sanity Potion
Resets your insanity completely back to 0, disabling the add-on until you drink another Insanity Potion. Brew it by adding Glowstone Dust to any Insanity Potion. Use with caution.
Tips
Sleep is disabled
You cannot skip the night using a bed while the add-on is active. Face the dark — that's the point.
Multiple encounters per night
At higher insanity levels, the monster can replay any of its previous challenges before the new one. Stay focused — you need to clear all of them in a single night.
Survive until dawn
Shadow Essence is only awarded when you are returned to the overworld at daybreak after a successful night. Failing an encounter means no reward and trying again the next night.
Multiplayer
Encounters and cutscenes are experienced per-player, not shared. In a group, each player progresses through the add-on at their own pace and sees encounters asynchronously.
Want to replay?
Open The Monster's menu and use "Reset to hostile" to set your insanity back to 0 and experience the full journey again from the very first encounter.
Embrace the dark
Several encounters punish light and reward darkness. Don't bring too many torches — the monster wants you in the shadows.
